Opened Doors

So the 30 students here are split up to three different campuses: HPU downtown, UH Monoa, and KCC (a community college). I'm going to be outreaching at HPU downtown this summer. It's so strange to be on this campus, because well, it's not really your usual campus. The classrooms are split up between 6 different buildings, where there are only some classes in some buildings throughout a block of businesses!

I found it really hard to determine who the students were and where they would hang out. From what we have heard from the local businesses is that most of the Locals come and go as classes end, but it was mainly the international students that hung out in this area. It was kinda discouraging, because our whole project is based on relational ministry, and how can we do that if we can't find students?!

Anyway, just a little story I wanted to share about God literally opening doors! My partner Joel and I were just looking around the different buildings and decided to go to the library of the LB building. We went to the 2nd and 5th floors which were the library floors and found nothing. We decided to head back down and as we got into the elevator another guy came in, and I had accidentally pressed the "M" button thinking it was the main floor, while the other guy pressed the "star" button, which is obviously the floor we needed to get on. As the door opened for the mistaken button pushed, a bunch of international students filled that room, and then the door closed. Joel and I were pretty much in shock of what we had just seen and once we got on the 1st floor we were trying to decide whether or not to go back up. We kinda brushed it off and as we were about to walk to the exit, the other elevator randomly opened. No one was there, no buttons were pushed, so seriously, I believe God opened that elevator door! We decided that we would go back to the M floor, and started to talk to an international student. Of course the person that we talked to spoke the same language that Joel did!!! So we found out where the international students hung out, and various things about the campus!

God is so awesome! Even though the campus didn't seem lively, he provided people that we could talk to. I believe that our focus on reaching locals is going to change to reaching international students on the campus we're at. What's cool is that one of the admissions office assistants told us that many international students come to school there and then go back to their home country to apply what they have learned! Imagine what God can do with these international students not only affecting their school in Hawaii, but also going back and spreading God's love to their countries?!!!? Crazy, right?

So prayers for this time:
- That we can have opportunities to speak to international students
- Support Raising!!: $525 left!
- That our team would not get burnt out

Update/Praises:
(I wrote this blog yesterday, and already God has been answering prayers)
- Two people from our group met some international students and shared the gospel with them in their language
- Our team has been meeting more and more students

Yayy. God is good!

Rested

God is SO good! Ever since the beginning of winter quarter I have been drained like no other! This past week has been one of the most hectic, with finals, packing, moving, support raising, and a bunch of errands, it's been go, go, go lately. I praise God for giving me a day of rest and a time to really relax and process everything that has been going on lately.

Anyway, after settling in our dorms in Hawaii, we finally got to rest. The project directors realized the work that we had put in that weekend for support raising and the stress of that situation and decided to have today as a day of relaxation and rest. We ended up going to North Shore, specifically Waimea Bay!

This place is know for this huge rock that people jump off of! As many of you know, I have a fear of heights, drowning, and falling off something, so the task of jumping off the rock was a huge one! But of course, I wanted to jump off anyway! After much encouragement from Summer Project people, the comfort of knowing that friends were close enough to help me if I needed help swimming to shore, and a lot of time, I jumped! It was AWESOME!

I realize that this is going to happen a lot during project. I'm going to need to overcome a lot of fears that I have. Throughout this summer, I'm going to face many situations where I have to face my fears head on, and I'm ready for that. Like jumping off the rock and having my Summer Project people supporting me, it's the same with the situations I'm going to face. I find comfort that the community I'm in are there to encourage me and support me! But even more so I find comfort in knowing that God is there!! I'm so excited to see what God has in store for me when I decide to take a step, or jump of faith! He has crazy things in store for Hawaii! Praise God that although I have these fears, they don't stop me from accomplishing things!

sidenote: My roommate loves to dance and same with a few others on project. We discovered that they have dance classes on campus that we can take :] I seriously feel like God is going to do wonders with my passion for dance, because my passion for Him is first. <3

Anyway, here are some praises/prayer requests:

Praises:
- Time of rest/relaxation/team bonding!
- Support raising still going well
- Safe trip to Hawaii

Prayers:
- We would not lose sight of why we are here
- That we would see outreach as something constant, not something blocked into our schedule
- Finding peace, strength, comfort, and everything in the Lord
- Making time to be with God
- Boldness in initiating conversations and sharing :]

Anyway, time to hit the pillow, tomorrow's gonna be quite a day!

Love&&Thanks,

Camille

Greater than numbers

God has been so faithful to everyone here at Hawaii SP! Like what I had said in the last post, we were down about $60,000 and I personally still had a good amount to raise! I was scared for a bit that my friends from SLO weren't going to be able to go because they weren't ANYWHERE close to the $4000 mark they wanted us to reach by 5pm on Saturday. But God was faithful. God provided.

In less than 24 hours our team raised over $34,000. This amount shows nothing but the power of God! I can't even tell you how encouraging it was to see everyone from our team constantly calling, emailing, and im-ing people until the late hours of the night! The love of God is so evident in this place through the staff and students, and it's just an amazing experience, especially since this has only been day 2 of briefing!

I just want to thank all of you that have been supporting me! God has blessed me with amazing people in my life, those willing to call others up, those keeping my team and me in prayers, and those really trusting that God will use this money raised for His glory!! Thank you SO MUCH again for all your prayers and support! I am truly encouraged by the community that God has provided!

It's crazy to think, but I'm going to be leaving from Vanguard University to LAX in less than 3 hours!! (4:15 am....so early!!). Just wanted to end with a few praises/prayer requests:

Praises:
- God provides - Everyone is going to be able to go to Hawaii!!!!!!! Praise God!
- Giving us strength and perseverance
- Giving us hope and encouragement
- Providing an awesome community (already!!)

Prayer Requests:
- Safe flight
- God would be preparing our hearts, and the hearts of those that we will be speaking to!
- Support Raising - the remaining total for each person
- Rest and strength throughout the next couple weeks!

Thank you so much for supporting me!! You are awesome! I would love to hear any prayer requests you may have!

Briefing!!

Wow, I can't even believe that I've only been at briefing for like a day and a half! It feels like I've been here for such a long time, and already I'm loving the people that I'm going to be going on project with!! So far our day and half has been filled with getting to know each other and learning what we'll be doing this summer!

What's crazy is that today we found out that with our team, consisting of 30 students and 14 staff, we still have $60,000 to raise...by Sunday! I know that number may seem unrealistic, but the God we serve is completely capable of providing so much more than amount needed! Personally, I'm about $2000 from reaching my support goal, with $1200 of it needed by this Sunday! I know that God is going to provide in ways that I can't even imagine, He already has in so many ways! And I know for a fact that this summer, Hawaii is where I am called. There is no doubt in my mind that God has put this desire and passion in my heart for a reason, and that He's going to do so many things while my team is there!

I would love it if you could pray for me and my team, just for encouragement, for support, and that God will work in the hearts of those that we call within the next day! All of us have been calling people non stop for hours today, and will continue to do so tomorrow! Praise God for the support that we've raised so far!

In terms of support, If you feel led to support me, I would love to call you and talk to you more about my trip!
There's also two really easy ways to support me:

Time Warp

I leave tomorrow for briefing and cannot believe it! I also have to move out of my house, clean, and pack for Hawaii, and right now it seems like way more work than I first thought, haha! I've realized that I'm a pack rat, and now I have tons of useless stuff that I don't know what to do with, so it seems like a Goodwill run is going to happen. On top of tons of packing, my view of time has gone out the window, It's so hard to keep track of time, what day it is, and anything else that has to do with time, it just keeps flying by. Anyway, just wanted to share a few prayers/praises:

Praises:

- I'm NOT on AP (Academic Probation)!!!!
This quarter has been tough for me, especially with one course, but I didn't fail it, so praise God! This was worrying me for the longest time because of so many things that depend on that class!

- I've gotten about $300-$400 for support in the past few days!

- One of my friends let me borrow her car for these past few days :] It helps out so much with all the errands and moving that needs to be done!

Prayer Requests:

-Still keep praying for support raising, for me and my team!

- Safety driving down to briefing tomorrow!

- That everyone would constantly be in prayer during summer project, even now!

- Even through the chaos of moving, I'll be able to spend time support raising/in prayer!

That's it for now :]

Love you guys and please let me know how I can pray for you!
